Unless you’ve been living under a rock the last few decades, you have at least heard about Cabo San Lucas or “Cabo” as it is commonly called. Or “Los Cabos” to those who are familiar enough to appreciate both San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas – towns on opposite sides of the cape.
But few know as much about the Pearl of Baja California, the “City of Peace.” Most people think of Bolivia when they hear La Paz, getting a vague look when you say “the one in Mexico.”
Driving north-ish through spectacular desert and coastal scenery, it takes about three hours to reach La Paz from Los Cabos. It’s the capital city of Baja California Sur, and the population of La Paz exceeds 220,000.
Whereas Cabo San Lucas was designed and grew up as a resort city, La Paz celebrates it’s 400 year anniversary in May, 2009.
A busy port and variety of industry stabilizes the economy of La Paz – a middle-class, working city with plenty of shopping, dining, culture and activities including golf, boating, fishing, swimming … enough night-life to satisfy all but the most hardy-partyers.
We could give you more facts and history about La Paz, Mexico. And we will. Later. Why bore you with that now? There is so much more to delight in La Paz than facts and figures and dates.
Won’t you join us on a virtual tour of La Paz and Baja California Sur?
When you’re ready to hit the highway or the air, perhaps we’ll meet you on the golf course, in a kayak or hiking through a canyon looking for 10,000 year old painted caves.
Hasta La Vista!
